Neck pain is discomfort or stiffness in the neck area, often involving the muscles, nerves, bones, or joints. It can range from mild to severe and may be accompanied by headaches, shoulder pain, or limited movement.

Common Causes:
Poor posture (e.g., looking down at phones or computers)
Muscle strain or tension
Sleeping in an awkward position
Injuries (like whiplash)
Arthritis or other degenerative conditions
Stress, leading to muscle tightness
A simple and effective remedy to relieve the pain of a stiff neck is to apply heat to the painful area. Heat provides relief by reducing muscle contractions.
In addition to painkillers such as paracetamol or ibuprofen, you can protect your neck with a scarf (preferably silk to retain heat), pour hot water over the painful area, or apply a hot water bottle or a heating collar (available in pharmacies).
In cases of acute neck pain, a foam cervical collar can provide relief by immobilizing your neck (preventing painful movements). However, this solution should be used only occasionally, as prolonged immobility can cause muscle atrophy.
If the pain persists or is recurrent, you should consult a doctor, who may prescribe stronger treatments (anti-inflammatories and muscle relaxants) and/or physical therapy sessions. Physiotherapy helps strengthen neck muscles and correct poor posture, which is often responsible for back pain.
Prevention
To prevent stiff necks and neck pain in general, you must protect yourself from the cold and poor posture. Fatigue and stress also contribute to the onset of this problem.
In practice, it is recommended to:
• sit correctly in front of your computer: the screen should be in front of you at eye level, the keyboard should be aligned and low enough for your fingers to rest on it naturally.
• avoid twisting your head: to watch television, sit facing the screen and not to the side.
• do not strain your neck to work at height, but rather climb on a stepladder.
• avoid soft, bulky pillows and bolsters (contoured pillows are preferable).
• avoid drafts on the neck.
• wear a scarf for outdoor activities and sports.
